SCHOLARSHIP

CAMSA has developed a scholarship program to assist students with tuition and other educational expenses. The scholarship, which is based on academic excellence, is open to individuals of Caribbean heritage living in the USA and pursuing post-secondary education in one of the sciences.

The scholarship program was launched in 2009 and is for undergraduate study at a two- or four-year accredited college or university.

Her  extra-curricula activities included serving as a sargeant in the Greenburgh Police Department's Explorer Post and working during the past two summers at the Greenburgh
Town Camp as a counselor.

Isabel Morgan of Guyanese heritage is a pre-med student, majoring in Anthropology and boasts an excellent academic record. Her experiences include researching circadian clock proteins in Daphnia magna, Daphnia pulex and Carcinus maenus at the Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory in Maine last summer. This summer she’s at Johns Hopkins University in the Maternal & Child Health program doing clinical research and shadowing physicians and nurses. Isabel also is a Residential Advisor at Mt. Holyoke.

Rachel Thomas
is of Barbadian heritage and a pre-med major, planning a career in Neonatology. She has a strong volunteer background. During high school she was a member of the Invisible Children Program, which raised money for the children of Uganda. A very-well rounded student, she’s also an accomplished athlete, violinist, A capella singer and has been widely acknowledged as a leader.

Jelissa Fernandez
is of Dominican heritage. She demonstrated excellent academic performance in high school in Brooklyn. She is an entering freshman in the Nursing Program at Long Island University, Brooklyn campus with plans to become a Pediatric Nurse. Her leadership qualities included captain of the volleyball team in high school. Despite a challenging background, Jelissa maintained her focus on academics and vows to attain success in her career and life.

tiffany winter Tiffany Winter was born in Washington, D.C., in 1991 and is of Jamaican descent. The former competitive swimmer and dancer now attends the University of Georgia where she is majoring in Food Science with a concentration in Pre-pharmacy. Tiffany’s goal is to become a pharmacist and to develop a drug that would cure cancer.

OUTREACH

CAMSA has developed an Outreach Program that conducts medical missions to underserved communities throughout the Caribbean. In addition to its missions, CAMSA organizes conferences and town hall meetings geared towards health promotion and the prevention of chronic diseases. Our program also includes health screening and distribution of literature.
