Education is a key to maintaining good health

CAMSA believes that access to good healthcare is vital, especially for Caribbean and other people who often are disproportionately affected by chronic illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma and cancer. But equally important is knowledge about how to make healthcare choices and maintain good health. Education builds knowledge, skills and positive attitudes about health – in all of its aspects: physical, mental, emotional and social health. It motivates individuals to improve and maintain their health, prevent diseases and reduce risky behaviors. Consequently, in addition to its ongoing community outreach activities, CAMSA has designated two areas for special focus: co-sponsoring an annual cancer symposia for the past 14 years and awarding scholarships to college students of Caribbean origin who are majoring in science-related fields.
